Invariant differential operators of general position
Funct. Anal. Prilozh. 16 (1982), N3, 86-87
Description: Estimates for dimensions of homology of L_1 with coefficients in tensor products of lambda-densities, with emphasis on zero-degree homology. The main Lemma from which estimates follow, seems to be a consequence of spectral sequence associated with a double (or, generally, n-dimensional) complex (when differential is a sum of commuting differentials).

Elements for Physics. Quantities, Qualities, and Intrinsic Theories
Springer, 2005, 279 pp.
Abstract: While usual presentations pf physical theories emphasize the notion of physical quantity, this book shows that there is much to gain when introducing physical quality. The usual physical qunatities simply appear as coordinates over the manifolds representing the physical qualities. This allows to develop physical theories that have a degree of invariance much deeper than the usual one. It is shown that properly developed physical theories contain logarithms and exponentials of tensors: their conspicuous absence in usual theories suggests, in fact, thet the fundamental invariance principle stated in this book is lacking in present-day mathematical physics. The book reviews and extends the theory of Lie groups, develops differential geometry, proposing compact definitions of torsion and curvature, and adapts the usual notion of linear tangetn application to the intrinsic point of view proposed for physics.

Functional Analysis and Its Applications Volume 41, Number 4 / October, 2007 Pages 318-322
Abstract: Quasicomplexes are usually understood as small (in some sense) perturbations of complexes. Of interest are not only perturbations within the category of complexes but also those going beyond this category. A sequence perturbed in this way is no longer a complex, and so it bears no cohomology. We show how to introduce the Euler characteristic for small perturbations of Fredholm complexes.

From finite differences to finite elements. A short history of numerical analysis of partial differential equations
J. Comput. Appl. Math. 128 (2001), N1-2, 1-54
Abstract: This is an account of the history of numerical analysis of partial differential equations, starting with the 1928 paper of Courant, Friedrichs, and Lewy, and proceeding with the development of first finite difference and then finite element methods. The emphasis is on mathematical aspects such as stability and convergence analysis.

A propos d'une question de Friedlander et Suslin. I. Une r'esolution injective des puissances sym'etriques twist'ees
Hopf preprints archive, 2003
Abstract: Some years ago, Friedlander and Suslin constructed an explicit injective resolution of twisted symmetric powers in the category of strict polynomial functors over a ground field of characteristic 2. The factors in this resolutions are given by direct sums of tensor products of (non twisted) symmetric powers. The case of a symmetric power twisted only once is a well-known result: it is some kind of Koszul complex. In characteritic p>2, nothing similar was known up to now, even for a single twist. In this paper, we construct such injective resolutions. The resolutions we construct are in fact "p-resolutions", that is, the differential does not vanish when composed twice, but only when composed p times. This result should unable us to constuct an injective resolution of any twisted functor if we know an injective resolution of the corresponding non twisted functor. This will be the subject of another paper.

Abstract: A method is given of computing the E1-terms of the Vinogradov spectral sequence of involutive systems of differential equations.
