Abstract: We present a generalization of Gerstenhaber's theory of deformations. We no longer assume that the deformation parameter t acts in its usual free and symmetric way on the elements of the original algebra A, but in the following manner: t · a = ?(a)t and a · t = ?(a)t, where ? and ? are endomorphisms of A. We develop the cohomological framework adapted to these deformations.

An introduction to universal central extensions of Lie superalgebras

Groups, rings, Lie and Hopf algebras, Kluwer, 2003, 141--166
Abstract: We provide an introduction to the theory of universal central extensions of Lie superalgebras. In particular, we show that a Lie superalgebra has a universal central extension if and only if it is perfect. For perfect Lie superalgebras we provide a model for the universal central extension, which is the super version of a construction first given by van der Kallen for Lie algebras. It has the advantage that it works for Lie superalgebras over commutative superrings, which is the setting of the paper. Another topic considered is the lifting of automorphisms and derivations to the universal central extension.

Affine Kac-Moody algebras graded by finite root systems
Preprint IRMA 2003-012
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study the gradations of the affine Kac-Moody algebras by finite root systems as defined by S. Berman and R. Moody. We first prove a transitivity property which allows to give a large class of such root-graded algebras. Then we prove a series of determining conditions and we obtain, in particular, that the twisted exceptional affine algebras are not graded by any finite root system. We study then more particularly the case of the non twisted algebras graded by a simply laced root system and we give the full classification. Finally, we give all the A_k-gradations.

On the commutator width of perfect groups
Bull. London Math. Soc. 36 (2004), N1, 30-36
Abstract: This paper proves bounds for the commutator width of a wreath product of two groups. As a corollary, it is shown that the commutator width of finite perfect linear groups of dimension 15 is unbounded. It follows that the covering number of these groups is unbounded. On the other hand, the commutator width of iterated wreath products of nonabelian finite simple groups is bounded by an absolute constant.
