Symplectic operad geometry and graph homology
math.QA/0211464
Abstract: A theorem of Kontsevich relates the homology of certain infinite dimensional Lie algebras to graph homology. We formulate this theorem using the language of reversible operads and mated species. All ideas are explained using a pictorial calculus of cuttings and matings. The Lie algebras are constructed as Hamiltonian functions on a symplectic operad manifold. And graph complexes are defined for any mated species. The general formulation gives us many examples including a graph homology for groups. We also speculate on the role of deformation theory for operads in this setting.

Parameter risk in the Black and Scholes model
Economics Working Paper Archive at WUSTL, 2003
Abstract: We study parameter or estimation risk in the hedging of options. We suppose that the world is such that the price of an asset follows a stochastic differential equation. The only unknown is the (future) volatility of the asset. Options are priced and hedged according to the Black and Scholes formula. We describe the distribution of the profit and loss of the hedging activity when the volatility of the underlying is misestimated. A financial interpretation of the results is provided. Analytical bounds and numerical results for call, put, and portfolios complete our description.

Jordan superalgebras defined by brackets
J. London Math. Soc. 64(2001), N2, 357-368

Abstract: Jordan superalgebras defined by brackets on associative commutative superalgebras are studied. It is proved that any such superalgebra is imbedded into a superalgebra defined by Poisson brackets. In particular, all Jordan superalgebras of brackets are i-special. The speciality of these superalgebras is also examined, and it is proved, in particular, that the Cheng-Kac superalgebra is special.

Cyclic cohomology of certain affine schemes.
Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 21 (1985), no. 6, 1261--1279
MR 87k:13020
Abstract: The periodic cyclic cohomology of the commutative C-algebra A=C[x]/f is explicitly computed. The authors prove that in odd degrees it is zero; and in even degrees it is isomorphic to $\bold C^m$, where $m$ is the number of distinct roots of $f=0$ in $\bold C$. The calculus depends on the original definition of cyclic cohomology developed by \n A. Connes\en \ref[Inst. Hautes Études Sci. Publ. Math. No. 62 (1985), 257--360; MR 87i:58162], and is quite technical. Similar results for cyclic homology have been obtained independently by \n R. E. Staffeldt\en \ref[Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 95 (1985), no. 2, 191--198; MR 86m:18010]; and by \n D. Burghelea\en and \n M. Vigué-Poirrier\en \ref[Cyclic homology of commutative rings, to appear].

Maximal commutative subalgebras, Poisson geometry and Hochschild homology
math.KT/0603386, 10p.
Abstract: A Poisson geometry arising from maximal commutative subalgebras is studied. A spectral sequence convergent to Hochschild homology with coefficients in a bimodule is presented. It depends on the choice of a maximal commutative subalgebra inducing appropriate filtrations. Its E^{2}_{p,q}-groups are computed in terms of canonical homology with values in a Poisson module defined by a given bimodule and a maximal commutative subalgebra.

Abstract: We show how Artin-Hasse exponentials of nilpotent derivations can be used to produce new cyclic gradings of non-associative algebras of prime characteristic from a given one. We discuss the connection with the technique of switching tori (and, consequently, the associated root space decompositions) in restricted modular Lie algebras. However, differently from toral switching, our method can produce gradings over cyclic p-groups of order higher than p. In particular, we apply it to construct cyclic gradings of the Zassenhaus Lie algebra of dimension pn, for p>3.

The algebraic entropy of classical mechanics
J. Math. Phys. 44 (2003), N7, 3071-3087
Abstract: We describe the "Lie algebra of classical mechanics," modelled on the Lie algebra generated by kinetic and potential energy of a simple mechanical system with respect to the canonical Poisson bracket. It is a polynomially graded Lie algebra, a class we introduce. We describe these Lie algebras, give an algorithm to calculate the dimensions cn of the homogeneous subspaces of the Lie algebra of classical mechanics, and determine the value of its entropy limn c. It is 1.825 423 774 201 08 , a fundamental constant associated with classical mechanics.

Levi-Tanaka algebras and homogeneous CR manifolds
Compos. Math. 109(1997), 195-250
Abstract: In this paper we take up the problem of discussing CR manifolds of arbitrary CR codimension. We closely follow the general method of N.~Tanaka, while concentrating our attention to the case of manifolds endowed with partial complex structures. This study required a deeper understanding of the structure of the Levi--Tanaka algebras, which are the canonical prolongation of pseudocomplex fundamental graded Lie algebras. These algebras enjoy special properties, the understanding of which provided also a way to build up several different examples and points to a rich field of investigations. Here we restrained further our consideration to the homogeneous models.

Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras and cyclic cohomology of Hopf algebras
arXiv:math.QA/0311276
Abstract: We show that the Connes-Moscovici cyclic cohomology of a Hopf algebra equipped with a character has a Lie bracket of degree -2. More generally, we show that a "cyclic operad with multiplication" is a cocyclic module whose cohomology is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra and whose cyclic cohomology is a graded Lie algebra of degree -2. This explain why the Hochschild cohomology algebra of a symmetric algebra is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra.

Homology of Centralizers
DOI: 10.1080/00927870701302206
Communications in Algebra, Volume 35, Issue 7 July 2007 , pages 2191 - 2207
Abstract: Given a group b.Pi, we study the group homology of centralizers b.Pig, g isin b.Pi, and of their central quotients b.Pig/lang grang. This study is motivated by the structure of the Hochschild and the cyclic homology of group algebras, and is based on Quillen's approach to the cyclic homology of algebras via algebra extensions. A method of computing the de Rham complex of a group algebra by means of a Gruenberg resolution is also developed.

Abstract: A Steinberg conformal algebra is defined as an abstract algebra by a system of generators and relations between the generators. It is proved that a Steinberg conformal algebra is the universal central extension of the corresponding conformal Lie algebra; the kernel of this extension is calculated.

Combinatorial Methods. Free Groups, Polynomials, and Free Algebras
Springer, 2004, 315 pp.
Abstract: The main purpose of this book is to show how ideas from combinatorial group theory have spread to two other areas of mathematics: the theory of Lie algebras and affine algebraic geometry. Some of these ideas, in turn, came to combinatorial group theory from low-dimensional topology at the beginning of the 20th Century. This book is divided into three fairly independent parts. Part I provides a brief exposition of several classical techniques in combinatorial group theory, namely, methods of Nielsen, Whitehead, and Tietze. Part II contains the main focus of the book. Here the authors show how the aforementioned techniques of combinatorial group theory found their way into affine algebraic geometry, a fascinating area of mathematics that studies polynomials and polynomial mappings. Part III illustrates how ideas from combinatorial group theory contributed to the theory of free algebras. The focus here is on Schreier varieties of algebras (a variety of algebras is said to be Schreier if any subalgebra of a free algebra of this variety is free in the same variety of algebras).
